Azra Maqsood has 20 years of experience, including 15 years of senior leadership in strategy and governance. Her passion for youth and women's engagement led her to choose a career in education, health, and development sectors over the corporate sector.
As the Chief Operating Officer at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), from November 2015 to August 2022, she streamlined operations and established cardiac care facilities across Sindh. As the Managing Partner of Concentric from December 2014 to May 2016, she led the WomenX project, supporting 350 women in Karachi and 50 in Peshawar.
As the Executive Director/CEO of Injaz Pakistan from January 2012 to June 2015, she oversaw the organization and its staff, impacting 10,000 youths through various programs and raising $650,000.
She led the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science & Technology (SZABIST), Karachi, as Deputy Director for almost 14 years, handling the complete strategy and operations of the Institute. She established SZABIST units, including the Executive Development Center (EDC), the Center for Management and Development (CMD), ZabFM 106.6, and ZabNet, and was the pioneer of two internationally recognized student societies. She was responsible for leading corporate communication programs, developing partnerships, and maintaining all PR and media relations. She created industry, government, and non-governmental linkages with SZABIST and facilitated several initiatives.
Azra as an educationist, involved in teaching and research in several areas, and has compiled and edited a book on retailing. She serves on the International Editorial Board of the UK-based online magazine, The Working Manager, and is a panelist for the selection committee of ASHOKA: Innovators for Public. She is an active volunteer with the Pakistan Women's Swimming Federation.
