Our philosophy

A turn is not a step.
It changes the direction you are facing.

Torque is a diverse tribe of consultants, trainers, facilitators and speakers. We turn people and organisations on through innovative OD and L&D solutions. All our work carries our secret inspirational sauce — call it turn-on sauce — blended with an expe-digital outlook: experiential and digital, together.

Our mantra

Turn people and organisations on.

The desire to rise — we call it the turning force

The belief

The Turning Force

The quote constantly used for change is that change is the only constant. Do you see something there? We do.

We believe in the human desire to respond to a calling — to rise, to revolt, and to transform their world and the world around them.

We call that desire the turning force. Without it, no framework or strategy flies. Without it, all meetings are a lull. Without it, we stay mediocre at best.

Our language

The Words We Use, and Why They Are Not Decoration

Each of these replaces a question most training conversations never get round to asking.

Turn-offs
The real barriers to great performance — the things nobody names in the room. We get clients talking about them first, because a programme that ignores them is decoration.
Turn-ons
What actually moves this specific group of people. Found, not assumed. Everything we design is aimed at them.
Turn-on sauce
Our inspirational blend — the design choices that make learning delicious, digestible and developmental rather than merely delivered.
Turnshop
Not a workshop. A workshop informs; a turnshop is transformational in design, and built around the specific people in the room.

How an engagement runs

Four Turns

The same four, whether the room holds eight people or eight hundred.

  1. A mechanic's hands working a ratchet on a stripped-down engine block in a lamplit workshop

    Turn 01

    Find the turn-offs

We start with what is in the way. Interviews, floor time, honest conversations with the people who will be in the room — not a form emailed to a distribution list.

    Run the Turn-Off Finder
  2. A potter's wet hands shaping a spinning vessel on the wheel, the clay blurred with rotation

    Turn 02

    Design for these people

Every programme is built around the specific people in the room, the specific outcomes you need, and the specific context in which learning has to land and stick.

  3. A rider leaning hard into a corner at speed, knee down, with two more riders following through the bend

    Turn 03

    Turn the room on

Facilitation with turn-on sauce: experiential, digital where digital helps, and relentlessly aimed at behaviour rather than recall.

  4. The open movement of a brass clock, one gear spinning fast enough to blur while the hands hold time

    Turn 04

    Leave the turning behind

Internal trainers, playbooks and learning materials that keep working long after we have gone. Our best engagements are the ones you outgrow us on.

We stand by the following code

The Code

Seven lines. They get used in actual decisions, including the ones that cost us work.

  1. 01

    Serve clients personally, not professionally

The relationship is with people, not procurement.

  2. 02

Create great things, not just more of the same or copy paste

    Nothing off the shelf. Ever.

  3. 03

Believe in what you do and in beings around you

Faith in human potential is the starting assumption, not the reward.

  4. 04

Truth in all situations, there are no better answers

Including when the truth costs us the work.

  5. 05

Humility always, for all we do, is the little we can

The room does the turning. We set the conditions.

  6. 06

Collaborate crazy, we all have less time to do everything by ourselves

A tribe, by design — not a headcount.

  7. 07

Loyalty to trade, to the industry, for we are part of it and because of it

We grow the profession we live off.
